The Rev. Timothy Holder, Editor "If Jesus were alive today, he would have been a rapper."--The Rt. Rev. Catherine Roskam.
A powerful evangelism tool, developed at Trinity Church of Morrisania in the birthplace of Hip Hop, the South Bronx, The Hip Hop Prayer Book offers a means to worship that will draw in the young and speak to those not generally spoken to by the Church. Containing daily prayers, psalms, a variety of services (including a Eucharist), and a selection of bible stories all designed with the enlivening power of Hip Hop in mind, and prefaces by two bishops of the Episcopal Church and a wealth of contextualizing materials, The Hip Hop Prayer Book is designed for in personal worship and by church leaders looking for ways in which to broaden the reach of their congregation.
Psalm 23 as adapted by Ryan Kearse The Lord is all that, I need for nothing. He allows me to chill. He keeps me from being heated and allows me to breathe easy. He guides my life so that I can represent and give shouts out in his Name. And even though I walk through the Hood of death, I don't back down for you have my back. The fact that you have me covered allows me to chill. He provides me with back-up in front of my player-haters and I know that I am a baller and life will be phat. I fall back in the Lord's crib for the rest of my life.

This was okay, but a little cliche. A person with plenty of cred might be able to pull it off, but a Southern white girl like me would sound like a fraud. However, it's a good start toward providing worship to the hip-hop culture and doesn't sacrifice tradition.

This is a lie!! This book in mixed with 5% nation of gods and earths teaching along with Biblical teaching. Yes the review was helpful in showing that Hip Hop doesnt belong in the church, it is not a tool to reach or save our young. Jesus Christ and Him crucified is the only way to reach people. Hip Hop is a religion and culture and upsurbs the authority of Christ Jesus. Please do your research people, please, dont perish for a lack of knowledge! My actual rating is a 0 but I had to put something to get it through.

I have always been a proponent of the 1928 Book of Common Prayer(and the Tridentine Mass) and in somewhat opposition to modern liturgy. It seems that the curse of Vatican 2 is that every other Church feels the need to emulate the Novus Ordo Mass in some way, as does the 1979 Prayer Book. However, I realise that there is a whole generation who don't know the 28 BCP and furthermore don't understand its language; ergo, one must make 'some' changes here. Since I do urban work, i can relate to this prayer book. I can appreciate a Hip-Hop Mass. It may not be my particular 'thang' but if others benefit from it, then I'm for it. I did have to scratch out several places where God is referred to as 'mother' because it is Scripturally wrong. Jesus called God, 'Father', and NOT 'mother'. End of discussion. But, I would encourage those who do inner city ministry and other interested parties as well, to obtain a copy of this book and learn from it and benefit as well.
