This is a beautiful book - great value too. And it rocks! Lots of good bio on the designers. Buy two copies cos you won't want to rip out pages for framing if you only have one.

I design gig posters for fun locally and this book is just full of great examples and inspiration. One of the greatest features of it though is that the pages are perforated and you can frame all the large posters in the book. So, once you get tired of using it as a coffee table book, you can use it to decorate.

 "Excellent 1st Edition" 2009-08-18
By Carl D. Antone (Austin, TX United States)
Short review:

1) This is an excellent 1st Edition.

2) The author included hard to find and relevant examples that are definitive of the genre

3) Wide breadth of artists, designers, bands, styles, etc. represented

4) The number one reason this is a 5 Star book is that the production values are magnificent, the paper stock is heavy, the prints are beautiful, the typos are nil (I haven't found any), registration is on-key, color is great, binding is durable, jacket is great. This is a value in today's cut and paste culture of mass media. This book presents the content in way that makes you want to open it again and again. This book belongs on top of your coffee table.

A must for any music fan. Not only are the posters all very artistic and, dare I say, cool, but there is a wide array of very good bands represented. I've chosen to display the posters on my walls, and dollar for dollar this is one of the best deals on posters I've ever come across. Highly recommended!

"Kind of disappointing end to the trilogy" 2009-07-11
By Dina (Brazil)
This final installment in the 'Key' trilogy was the weakest for me. I don't know, maybe I shouldn't have read all 3 books in a row, because reading about the tale of the 3 demigoddesses' souls trapped in a box of glass and how 3 mortal women, the heroines, were destined to find the keys to release them got a bit stale this time around. It was pretty much the same basic thing all over again, and neither Zoe nor Brad, the couple du jour, was compelling enough to engage my full interest.

I admit I didn't like Zoe very much from the glimpses I had on the previous books, Key of Light and Key of Knowledge: she came across like this "wonder woman", larger than life and independent to the point of being too stubborn. Unfortunately, my impression didn't change after reading this book and there was a time or two when I wanted to give her a good shake to make her see reason. Her reluctance to accept Brad's love was justifiable in the beginning - after all, single mothers are, or should be, wary when considering a new romantic relationship - but I though she dragged it a little too long. If Brad was a "shady" character, I could understand it, but no...

Brad was the handsome, honest millionaire with a heart of gold, no flaws and not a single skeleton in the closet. He fell fast and hard for Zoe and, bonus points here, he also adored her son Simon. The ultimate "good guy", he was perfection in flesh and bone, there was absolutely nothing wrong with him... and I couldn't care less about him. Would I love to have a guy like him in real life? Sure! But that kind of hero doesn't work for me in Romancelandia, I'm sorry to say. Hmm, maybe that's why Zoe took so long to fall for him, LOL.

As for the search for Zoe's key, it was obvious - for me, not for Zoe - that the answer was linked to her accepting Brad's love, so the mystery part of the story didn't add much spark to make this an engrossing read. I was kind of bored halfway through the book, since neither the romance nor the mystery was thrilling. It's somewhat funny: I liked the mystery but not the romance in Key of Light, liked the romance but not the mystery in Key of Knowledge, and didn't like either the romance or the mystery in Key of Valor. Not exactly the combo I wanted.

Since this was the 3rd and last book in the series, it ends with a nice scene featuring only the 3 heroines in order to give closure to the whole quest for the keys. While I understood the reason behind the way NR chose to end the story, I was left feeling that Zoe and Brad were "cheated": I would have liked to see them in a special one-on-one final scene, the same way their friends had in the previous books. And that was the final nail in the coffin for me...

 "Key of Valor" 2009-05-31
By Kelly (Littleton, Colorado)
The third installment in the key series is focused on Zoe McCourt and Bradley Vane's story. Zoe is a single mother, and she has had to struggle to raise her son. She was an unwed teenage mother who was abandoned by her first love James Marshall. As Zoe gets to know Bradley, she is horrified to see the similarities between he and James. It becomes obvious that to get close to the third key, Zoe must get over her trust issues, and rely on Bradley to help her. As in the past books, Kane becomes even more evil, and lives end up hanging in the balance.

A very good conclusion to the Key series. The male/female relationships were done well, but what outshined those, was the relationship that developed between the three women. Dana, Malory, and Zoe were all very different women with different life experiences, but instead of the differences being a hindrance, those differences strengthened their bond. You could feel the strong friendship between them.

Maybe it was just me, or that my expectations were too high, but as I was reading this trilogy it felt like the author had fallen in love with the idea in the first book, carried it through in the second, but was bored with it by the third. This was not a bad book, but when compared with the first two, it seemed like she pushed the fun and intriguing paranormal aspect of the story to the side and fell back on letting the romance side of the story carry the last book. I began wondering if the heroine would ever have to fight the villain at all.

Even though, it did bring closure to the story and was an enjoyable read. (Even if I had been hoping for more of the paranormal aspect.)

"Not what I was expecting" 2009-07-11
By Soul Thirsty
I will preface this with the fact that I only read half of the book and scanned the rest of the book for points of interest to me. Having read other Christian marriage books on the topic, I was hoping that Turn Up The Heat would provide new insights on continuing to keep things sizzling. I was disappointed. This book is mostly question and answers, discussing topics such as what to expect on a honeymoon, what if one person is more interested than the other, communication, etc. After reading the first half of the book, I felt like most of the responses boiled down to, everyone is different and just keep communication open. And I had already heard many of the concepts from other books. I was also disappointed that there wasn't much discussion about the Bible or how your faith can affect your intimacy, but perhaps that wasn't the point of his book.

This is a good book for Christians or non-Christians with a traditional, conservative background who have not explored this topic before and have not been able to discuss their sexual relationship with their partner. Dr. Kevin Leman has a nice, light, comical way of responding to common questions.

For women interested in a book with more references to the Bible or a deeper look into specific topics, I would recommend Intimate Issues: 21 Questions Christian Women Ask About Sex. Intimacy Ignited: Conversations Couple to Couple: Fire Up Your Sex Life with the Song of Solomon is also a great book to read as a couple (or individually) and delves into the Song of Solomon. That's a pretty sizzling one.

After reading Have A New Kid by Friday Have a New Kid by Friday: How to Change Your Child's Attitude, Behavior & Character in 5 Days and seeing how much the relationship between me and my daughter became better, I decided to check out other books by Dr. Leman and I stumbled across his Turn Up the Heat in hopes that I could improve aspects of my marriage as well as I have with my daughter. WOW!!! What a tremendous difference in our sex life. Quite frankly, I didn't think it could improve that much and my husband? I think he's going to become a "Leman groupie"! I never thought I'd see the day that my husband would read a book about relationships!! I asked him why he'd read this one, and he said that he liked the candor and guilt-free style and encouraging advice that Dr. Leman has. This book handles intimate topics with Dr. Leman's same degree of readability and humor as his other books. It is an easy read and yet full of impacting advice. I would highly recommend this book. My husband and I are a path that I didn't think was possible and we thank Dr. Leman for helping us get there. We're going to check out his Sheet Music next!!

Sheet Music: Uncovering the Secrets of Sexual Intimacy in Marriage

This book is just what the doctor ordered--and a lot more fun than taking medicine. After a few years of marriage, let's face it. Sexual intimacy can get, well, boring. But no more. My husband and I just read Turn Up the Heat, and that's exactly what it's done for us. My husband has always been the "adventuresome" one, and I've always been reticent to try anything new. I grew up in a home where I was taught to be modest so taking any risks in the bedroom has been hard for me. But this book answered lots of questions I had that I didn't dare ask anyone else--even my husband. Dr. Leman made me appreciate who I am--and encouraged me to be the woman I want to be, free of embarrassment. If you're like me, and you want straight talk about marital sex, what your spouse wants, how often you should "do it," some creative suggestions for what to do when you're "too pooped to whoop," and some guilt-free advice that will help you see yourself (yup, love handles and all) and your spouse in a whole new light, this is the book for you. No more boring in our bedroom now, that's for sure! And I'm REALLY liking it.

Want a sex life that makes you want to twist and shout, is what the back cover of this book has on it. Dr. Kevin Leman the author of the best-seller Sheet Music, has brought us another book to deal with the things most of us are too embarrassed to ask about. Sexual intimacy, is a subject that most people are very interested in, but would never ask questions about.

So you want to know....

how to have honeymoon sex after 20 years

how to make your honeymoon a experience you will always remember

the right way to do "it" if there is a right or wrong way

how much sex is normal, or how little sex is normal

is oral sex OK?? is anything "wrong" in the marriage bed

how to have a normal sex life after children

how to keep the sparks alive in your marriage

Dr. Leman addresses all these topics plus many more in this book, I really enjoyed the format of this book, he would write briefly on each topic, and then answer questions from patients and readers. Turn up the Heat is a book that all married couples can benefit from, and a must read for newly-weds. Dr. Leman also addresses how to deal with and approach your spouse, when there are problems, he also addresses how to deal with a marriage partner who was sexually abused. This book is a easy reading book and definitely a book that I would recommend to others. He keeps it clean, addresses all questions from a Biblical standpoint, and is very discreet with his answers. 301 pages $17.99 US

If you are looking to re-ignite your love life, this is the book for you! Definitely a great book for a man to read. Leman shoots it to us straight. It sure taught me a thing or two. Like most men, I didn't think this book would teach me anything, but it made a big difference in our relationship.

Anna Lutz Abbot thinks she has her independence, and therefore her happiness, intact. She is a capable woman, a sensible woman, not someone given to risky living.

This all seems to be true enough until her lovely daughter returns from college for the summer a very different person, her wild and wonderful ex-husband arrives, and her flamboyant new best friend takes up with her daddy, turning a hot summer into a steaming one--only to be cranked up another ten degrees by Anna's own fling with Arthur, who is, heaven help us, a Yankee. All the action unfolds under the watchful eyes of Miss Mavis and Miss Angel, her next-door neighbors of a certain age, who have plenty to say about Anna's past, present, and future.

"Southern Chick Book that delivers laughs and self-reflection!" 2009-08-08
By G. Maddox (NW Florida)
Dorothea Benton Frank's "Isle of Palms" delivered great giggles and laughs but also makes you reflect on your own "emotional baggage" and how you need to heave it over the side. Isle of Palms chronicles the life of a woman from childhood and the loss of her young mother, through a bitter upbringing, a date rape with motherhood attached, and clear into adulthood and the revelation that she is finally, independent, successful and happy through all the bitterness of the past.

Dottie Frank has the ability to develop characters you want to know and love, or hate. Her stories teach a life lesson as they take unexpected twists and turns. You'll quickly get caught up in this book, and you will laugh-out-loud at the "love scene in a boat." I've read several of Dottie Frank's books and heartily recommend all of them.

"Falling Apart at the Seams" 2009-07-31
By Katie A. (GA)
After a slightly corny start, the novel proceeds to draw the reader in to an authentic world with vivid characters. (I have spent part of every summer on this island for the past 20 years.)I couldn't put it down...until about 3/4's of the way through, when it completely fell apart. It became tedious, boring, and predictable, as if the author herself had gotten tired of the project and wanted nothing more than to hasten its end. Certain themes were never resolved; others were rushed to an early, trite conclusion.

It's sad, because she really had something good going for a while.

 "Great beach book" 2008-12-16
By E Anderson (Pennsylvania)
I liked Isle of Palms much better than the first Dorothea Benton Frank book I read. This one was much more of a beachy, fun book than Plantation. The book is about a woman named Anna who has had some very hard ups and downs throughout her life and decides to make some major changes with the help of those she loves the most. She basically takes a major step and buys her own house on the Isle of Palms, the only place she feels totally at home. The characters she meets there and also some people she reconnects with help Anna to make some major life changes and have some fun along the way. It's a really fun beach book to read!
