 "great general introduction" 2008-12-12
By Brian T. Frazier (Dallas Texas USA)
This book presents a great way to learn and master the tricky skills that must become instinctive for any good mountain bike rider. It also has plenty of helpful advice on practically everything from how to find the right bike to how to bike through snow. The only drawback is it's age. It seems to be written before the time of the internet and decent rear shock designs.

"Good for a quick read." 2007-01-13
By Stanley D. Wolfersberger (Ohio)
The book is a bit outdated by today's standards but still presents a few good tips aimed squarely at the beginner. An updated version with a greater emphasis on current trends (the plethora of clipless pedals and the proliferation of full-suspension rigs, as well as the concept of cyclocross) would probably help to advance the level of content just enough to entice beginners and those in the first year or two of their riding development.

I wish there was a more helpful review from this website before I purchased the book, the only reason i am looking at the book on amazon right now is to check how much money i wasted. 10 dollars which is alright iwth me. i'll still read it, thru the course of the yeaer maybe.

honestly, this book cant be applied to me. It is written by a road biker gone mountain biking and maybe it will be more suitable for the same type of ppl. He starts off really dry and comparing everything to the feel and how its done in the flip side of road biking.

the book contains this ridiculous 3 month day by day guideline of how you should approach the mountain biking and the sectoin about choosing ur mountain bike and etc is just plain ambiguous and unhelpful.

i dont mean to bag on this book but after reading other books (like lee/lopez's mtb skills) i was blown away at literary style along with EXCELlent application to beginners and pros. and its downright fun to read. makes me not wanna go back to this purple book but i will after i finsih lee's.

i know this wasnt a helpful review either but please consider reading INSIDE the book before purchasing. i learned my lesson.

A Magazine of Her Own? studies the development of women's magazines, reveals in fascinating detail just how they have shaped the images of women which prevail today.

Like the corset, the women's magazines which emerged in the nineteenth century produced a "natural" idea of femininity: the domestic wife; the fashionable woman; the romancing and desirable girl. Their legacies, from agony aunts to fashion plates, are easily traced in their modern counterparts. But do these magazines and their promises empower or disempower their readers? A Magazine of Her Own? is a lively and revealing exploration of this immensely popular form from its beginnings. It is at once a chronological tracing of the history, a collection of intriguing case studies and an intervention into recent debates about gender and sexuality in popular reading.

"General information that all females who are 15 years of age or older already know" 2009-07-26
By Cestmoi
It contains general information that all females who are 15 years of age or older already know. You can learn this information from your friends, your mothers and the Internet.

For example, in chapter 5 "Styling at Home" from page 91 to 125, the author shows the readers how to use hair products. He says holding spray is used for finishing hair of all types. To use it, hold it 6-8 inches from your head and spray directly onto hair.

He also shows you how to blow dry your hair.

From page 121 to 122, he shows you how to do French twist with 2 drawings. If you don't know how to do it in advance, you'll certainly won't able to do it after reading this book.

It's a waste of money. "Great Hair" by David Boston and "Good to Great Hair" by Robert Vetica are more useful and easy to learn.

 "Waste of space" 2009-05-13
By Lynn Chin (LA)
It's a great book for teenagers because it's full of fluff. This book does not show you how to style hair. Nick Arrojo just talks and talks and talks about how the end result but hardly any instruction on how to get there. Also the styles are "meh" - nothing out of the ordinary.

This book boasts of creating styles for weddings, vacations and job interviews... Let me give you a taste of how he describes "creating" the look for job interviews:

"The key element on a job interview is to look professional, polished and well groomed. Make sure you've got a great hair cut and, if you're into color make sure that no roots are showing. You'll be most likely sitting across the desk from the interviewer, so it will be the top half that he or she will be connecting with. Keep your hair out of your face so you don't have to keep pushing it out of your eyes.

Whenever I conduct an interview with a potential employee, I always look for him or her to be wearing a hair shape and style befitting a modern, pulled together professional and, a similar approach is your best bet. DOnt got for a style that you would normally not try to do. I've seen it myself - people come into the interview looking great, and then on their first day of work they look totally different. Make sure you style your hair in that way, if they ask you back, still looks like you when you return."

Like I said, NOTHING about how to style your hair. Completely NOT HELPFUL.

You're better off picking up a magazine from a hair salon than wasting your money on this.

"The BEST that MY MONEY CAN GET" 2009-07-25
By Cestmoi
I bought 4 hair style books and about 6 magazines. This book is the best because of the reasons listed below.

- There are many styles, more than sixty. A few of them look pretty the same but most of them are beautiful, useful and look professional.

- The pictures are large, eye-catching, and printed on glossy paper. They show many details.

- Each style has more than 10 pictures that show you how to do it step-by-step. Consequently, it's very easy to follow. In fact, this book is the easiest to learn how to do it from the BEGINNING to the END. All the other books show me only incomplete steps with 6 pictures. As a result, I had to make many guesses during the process.

- The price is unbeatable.

- It's easy to follow but not easy to achieve unless you're a stylist. If you are not a professional, you'll need help and it will take time. At least, the book gives you the ideas. Well, if you want a professional look, you must have the basic knowledge.

I bought it for my friend who is a stylist. She's very happy with it. It's the BEST that MY MONEY CAN GET. We need more book like this.

 "pretty lame!" 2009-06-21
By K. Keith
The styles in this book are rather tacky in my opinion. They are to oudated and not elegent at all. A number or the styles look good at about step 13 then they junk it up by doing something stupid to it. Many of the styles seem the same or to similar. I checked this book out at the library and would highly suggest doing that first for anyone considering buying it! One positive for newbies is the styles in this book take a very low skill level, if you are starting out I guess it could be a stepping stone.
