 "so sad" 2009-03-21

I'm so sad to see the series end. All of the sisters were great and I wish she did a story on the mother, but that's ok. I'm really glad I found these books.

 "It's OK" 2009-01-19
By GShep (Bx, NY)
This is the third in a series. It is OK. The premiss is interesting but it seems a bit repetitive for those of us who have read the first two books. It seemed similar to other authors like Nora Roberts' series (but not as good).

 "The third triplet's story." 2009-01-06
By Detra Fitch (USA)
Centuries ago the Viking known as Thorgood the Wolf claimed a powerful seer, Aisling, as his own. One known as Borg challenged Thorgood for the woman and was defeated. With Aisling's unlimited gifts, Borg could have ruled the world. Instead, he was left with nothing. Borg put a curse on the line of Thorgood and Aisling. The Men of Wolf, the Protectors, pledged to safeguard Aisling and her children through time.

Leona Chablis, the oldest of the triplets, has been a widow for five years now. Leona has been told that she has more than one gift and the ability to be the strongest, even stronger than her world-famous psychic mother, Greer Aisling. But Leona wants nothing to do with her heritage, much less her gifts. That does not stop the nightmares of the evil man with piercing black eyes or of the visions about Aisling, her ancestor. Leona's sisters, Claire and Tempest, are married to "Protectors", men descended from Thorgood's warriors. Their bonds keep them safe. Leona is the only triplet without a Protector. Even though Leona refuses to admit her fear, Aisling's words still haunt her: "He's coming, a descendant of Borg. He wants to kill you, or worse - he may take your mind. Once done, the bond that keeps your family strong will weaken and they, too, will suffer." (Permission for quote given by the author.) Worse, Leona cannot deny that she can actually feel the evil man's presence. He is very close and getting ready to strike.

Owen Shaw and his sister, Janice, have been living in the area for two weeks. Janice is no longer mentally stable. She keeps talking about "him" and spirit voices telling her awful things. Owen seeks Leona's help for Janice. Janice has a minor psychic talent and Borg's descendant has been using her, as he has so many others. Unable to turn away the fragile young lady, Leona begins testing her powers. Leona and Owen soon come to understand that everything is about to come to a head. One of the ancient lines, Borg or Thorgood, is about to be ended forever.

***** I hated seeing this trilogy come to an end. After reading the story of each triplet, I feel as if they are close family friends. On the plus side, this means the author, Cait London, can begin a new trilogy to charm me all over again. I can hardly wait!

This story is very haunting, but I could not help but feel that one or two things were repeated too often. (My copy is unedited and the actual book may not have the repeats.) Since this is the last book of the trilogy, more time is spent on dealing with Borg's descendant than on the romance developing between Leona and Owen. However, I am not unhappy with how the author got around this problem. I will say no more on that. In this story, every character plays an important role and the plot has multiple layers. The sisters, their mother, and even their new husbands are all secondary characters (most via phone) and vital to Leona's story. I loved every minute I spent reading it! Now come on Cait London, charm me up some new friends to read about. *****

 "More like 1 1/2 stars..." 2008-11-24
By Deborah Wiley (Winter Haven, FL)
Evil stalks the Aisling heirs... and now Leona Chablis must battle the monster that has menaced her family for generations. Her sisters, Tempest and Claire, have already seen just how malevolent the curse against the Aisling family is. Owen Shaw appears to be a knight in shining armor, but can Leona truly trust her heart to him? And just what is wrong with his sister, Janice?

FOR HER EYES ONLY ends the trilogy first begun in At THE EDGE and continued in A STRANGER'S TOUCH. I thoroughly enjoyed AT THE EDGE and have only reluctantly finished the series due to my disappointment with A STRANGER'S TOUCH. Sadly, FOR HER EYES ONLY continues the haphazard, almost chaotic pace of the second book.

The subplot involving Janice should have been mesmerizing, especially against the backdrop of good versus evil. Instead, the arbitrariness of the villain detracts from the story as it's as if he magically shifts from one person to another. It's also not even remotely believable that someone with as strong of psychic powers as Leona could be deceived over and over again. Worse, the insanity of the villain descends into a sheer quagmire of confusion and the outright ridiculous.

FOR HER EYES ONLY ends a series that debuted with such promise. Unfortunately, it didn't end the same way.

"First rate send off for last in series" 2008-11-06
By armchairinterviews.com (Minnesota)
This is the third book in the psychic triplets trilogy and features the eldest triplet, Leona. Both of her sisters have passed through the eye of danger and are safe with their protectors. Now Leona knows that the danger is coming after her, but she doesn't know in what form. She's also unprepared, since she has never wanted her gift of sight-and hasn't worked at all to develop it.

When a young gifted woman, Janet, comes to her for help, she doesn't have the heart to turn her away, despite everything she's going through. With the help of Janet's brother, Owen, Leona must unravel the mystery surrounding Janet as well as end the curse that has surrounded her family for generations.

I loved the first two books in this trilogy and could not wait to get my hands on this book to find out what happens next! In the beginning I was sadly disappointed. The story of Leona starts out much slower than I'd hoped, and I had quite a bit of trouble forcing myself to continue reading. After the first couple of chapters everything picked up and I was again with the author I've come to love, and happy that I had forced myself to continue reading.

Though this book deals mainly with Leona's story, the backstory is what had me most interested. We still have all of the same lovable characters from the first two books making appearances, and we finally get some answers to questions that have been plaguing us since the beginning. The best part for me was finally finding out whom the bad guy was and what he was trying to achieve.

Anyone who has read the first two books in this series needs to read this book. Though Leona's story could stand on its own, the important part of this book is that it finally draws a conclusion to the family saga that has been shown throughout all three books.

Armchair Interviews says: Nice ending to a great trilogy.

 "One Against the All" 2009-03-15
By Bob Rosenberg (Palm Beach Gardens, FL United States)
The Supreme form of Courage is the One against the All.

Chuck Eddy's writing style alone puts him in a different realm than most critics who would give a favorable review of a sampled fart over a Dr. Rhythm Drum Machine loop for the money.

The fact that he stands alone and is NOT a trendy Sheep yet has been a critic at The Village Voice, Creem, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly and Chief Editor at Billboard should tell you something.

I am willing to bet that all of the one star reviews are from disgruntled musician turned "Rock Critics" who do piecemeal "Internet Rag" reviews from their parents basement. You should really read the book before spewing your jealousy.

Chuck Eddy has the courage to go against the mob without being contrived which puts him way above you haters. What are your accomplishments besides scouring Wikipedia, Youtube and Amazon to give bad reviews to anyone who has made it to the top of their field without being a sell out?

This book will never be a best seller. Neither was "Walden Pond", "Leave's of Grass", "Notes from Underground" or even "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" (until recently). This book is not written for the masses who would rather buy the "Tao of Paris Hilton".

Most Pop/Rock/Hip Hop/House/Trance/Progressive/Underground/ad infinitum songs are nothing but unoriginal variations on a few tracks. The fact that there are thousands of divisions for the same sounding junk is an indicator that music has really gone South. This is nothing new, commercialization works this way and this is what the brainwashed herd craves. Todays music is not inspired. It is totally contrived like your negative reviews. Your taste is not esoteric, it's just trendy.

Put on your Ed Hardy hats and keep plugging away D-Bags. One day you may get a permanent non-paying position on an internet magazine. Chuck Eddy has already made his mark. You are not even a blip on the radar screen.

Eddy's writing itself is rocknroll, and some readers just can't handle that. If you're looking for footnotes and pseudo-erudite analyses, go to school. This one's for rockers. Read while listening to Ragged Glory, etc.

"The book was good, only in that it should me what truly bad criticism and writing can be." 2008-06-25
By Alex Fuentes (Oak Town, NoCal)
This book is unbelievably bad by a writer who possesses possibly absolutely no talent or intelligence. Unfortunately, it's a sad reflection on rock criticism and writing in general. This book doesn't merit me sitting here wasting my time writing or thinking of it, I want to forget this book, this writer, everything about the experience as quickly as possibly and just pretend it was a very bad dream. I have nothing good to say about this book, except if I'm trapped in a bathroom with only this book, I could come up with one useful thing to do with this book. What's his next book going to be: how boogers are responsible for some of the greatest literary works of this century? I wish this was just some bizarre comment coming off the top of my head, but I could actually see this joker writing such a book of 'weighty scholarship'. Peace out, music lovers, the X Man

The other negative reviews pretty much spell it out, why did I not listen to them. There are some critics that create heated debates as to the weight of their opinion (Bangs, Marcus, etc), but this guy is just bad. I think this book is made for teenagers who can't read more than a page or two without getting bored. I traded it in for a good book on Marvin Gaye, so the experience wasn't all bad.

I thought I would buy a book from a new author, read about this on Amazon. I was really impressed. Great story with vivid and heartfelt characters that I could identify in my own circle. Very well done.

Funny enough, I liked the book so much I shared it and my friend from Spokane had the same comments as I posted. The bottom line is if you are in the need of a fresh and engaging writing style, I though "A Few Good Days" was a great read. Enjoy.

Terrific break out novel for Melanie Bollen. Being a Mom, it's sometimes hard to find time to read books for myself, but this was a nice easy read with several chapters that easily allow for "Mommy breaks." I highly recomend this book for anyone, especially those with busy schedules that are looking for a little something to fill their "reading void."

Melanie paints a very vivid picture of the story with her words I felt like I was watching a movie rather than reading a book. I couldn't help but fall for the characters and it was a page turner to discover how it all ends. This author knows how to draw her audience in and I will look forward to reading more of her books in the future.

Excellent book for Melanie Bollen's first attempt! I enjoyed all the characters...they were very likable and witty (much like this book!). It was a fast read and I really enjoyed the short chapters because it made it easier to just read a little at a time (great for busy schedules). This would be a relaxing beach read for the summer. Doesn't get the full 5 stars from be because of price & a little predictability of the story. Nonetheless, a great read & I'll be excited to read more by Melanie Bollen.

This book looks at the changing nature of literacy and at the way in which new and different literacies are emerging in the first part of the 21st century. It considers how children are shaping and being shaped by these changes, it also looks at how teachers need to bridge-the-gap between children's out of school interests and school based curriculum demands. This edited collection, which features chapters by international experts and voices in the field, aims to: Take a closer look at (and demystify) some of the influences on literacy in the 21st century e.g. popular culture, multi-modal texts, email, text messaging and critical literacy. Enhance teachers' awareness of these developments and show how they can use them to improve the literacy skills of their pupils. Show, through the Implications for Practice sections, how teachers can find different but straightforward ways of linking children's personal, out-of-school interests with the demands of the school curriculum.
